Educational support

Vellai Thamrai School is a source of educational activity and assistance for the village community. Services include:

• Free distribution of books and school supplies to a number of underprivileged students attending public schools
• Reading and writing classes for parents
• Training for drawing kolam greeting cards, and for traditional dance classes (Bharata Natyam),
• Vocational training for teenage school drop-outs.

Exceptional relief actions

Villages are very close to the Indian Ocean Coast and are exposed to natural disasters and regular floods. Vellai Thamarai furnished drinking water to villagers during the 2012 hurricane.

A long lasting solution to the water problem and other deficiencies can only be found by establishing skills-based partnerships with businesses.
